1ofU is a chance to research and share issues of foreign residents in Japan through art, law and everyday life. Coming together we share personal stories and objective information to uncover some of the unseen conditions in Japan today. One issue which nearly all foreign residents face in Japan is the problem of renting accommodation. Most of us are familiar with being told by the estate agents that "sorry no foreigners", and even if we overcome this hurdle the system of renting throws up many hurdles for those with no family connections in Japan. We will discuss this institutional discrimination and ask why it is still so widely practiced and tolerated.END:VEVENT
